Prepare

NPPE fast track course: preparing in 2 to 4 weeks

An honest plan for a short runway: what to cut, what never to cut, and how NPPE Pro fits the weeks you actually have.

Be honest about your starting point

Two to four weeks is short for six sections of law, ethics and professional practice. It is workable if you have met the material before: a retake, where your mastery report shows which content areas to fix, or a candidate who has already read one of the suggested books. From a standing start it is possible, but it asks for more than NPPE Pro's default daily goal of 15 minutes.

If you are not yet registered, the choice may be made for you: each regulator sets its own registration deadline, and the booking window closes before the sitting. If you are registered and far behind, compare waiting for a later sitting with the cost of a second attempt, since the exam fee is paid again each time.

What to prioritize when time is short

Spend your days where the questions are. The last three sections carry the same weight, so take them in any order, but do not drop them: together they are 21 to 30 questions.

How NPPE Pro compresses the plan when your sitting is close

NPPE Pro counts back from your exam date, so a close sitting gets a short plan rather than an impossible eight-week one. The stages, learn the topics, practise and review, then mock exams, each get fewer days, and the final week stays the final week.

When there are too few days for every stage to have its own, practice and mock exams share them. With a week or less to go, the plan goes straight to the final week: the mind map for the big picture, then your weakest topics. A retaker's plan spends less time on lessons and more on questions. See the study plan.

  • A daily pace check: ahead, on track or behind
  • Questions you miss come back until you get them right twice in a row
  • If you only need mocks, Safety Net has all 4 with their reports; Practice Questions has one

What to cut, and what never to cut

With little time, the order of the work matters more than the amount.

  • Cut: reading the books cover to cover

Use a book only to look up what your practice questions show you do not know. See NPPE books.

  • Cut: rewriting notes

A one-page list of the rules you keep forgetting is enough.

  • Cut: polishing a section you already know

Once a section's questions come easily, move on to the next gap.

  • Keep: at least one full timed mock

It is the only rehearsal of the pace, about 1.36 minutes per question.

  • Keep: reviewing your misses

Each missed question is a gap you already know about. Clear those before you look for new ones.

  • Keep: the exam setup check

Remote proctoring needs your computer and, since June 2026, a phone or tablet as a second camera. Test both days ahead, not on the morning.

  • Keep: sleep before the exam

Late-night cramming before a 2.5 hours exam costs more than it gains.

Upcoming NPPE sittings

If the runway is too short, a later sitting may be the better plan. Register with your regulator before its deadline.

Questions people ask

More answers in the NPPE FAQ.

Is two weeks enough to prepare for the NPPE?

It can be, if you already know some of the material and can study every day. Two weeks leaves room for one pass through the heaviest sections, a single full mock exam and a few days of review, but little margin. Starting from scratch, a later sitting with eight weeks of short sessions is the safer choice.

What should I study first if my NPPE sitting is close?

Professional Practice, then Law for Professional Practice. Together they carry 50 to 60 questions, so a gain there is worth more than the same effort on a smaller section. Then Ethics, with your regulator's code of ethics, and finally one pass through Professionalism, Professional Law and Regulation and Discipline.

Should I move to a later NPPE sitting?

Consider it if you are starting from scratch with less than a month to go. Weigh the extra weeks against the cost of a second attempt, which means paying the exam fee again and waiting for the next sitting. Your regulator sets the deadlines and the rules for changing sittings, so check with it directly.

How many mock exams should I take on a short timeline?

At least one full, timed mock, and two if you can fit them. The first shows your pace and your weakest sections; the second shows whether a few days of targeted review moved them. Take the last one early enough to act on the results, never the day before the exam.

How does the study plan work?

You tell NPPE Pro which sitting you are writing and it counts back from that date. The weeks are split into four stages: learn the topics, practise and review, mock exams, and a final week. Each day the app shows one task, and it tells you whether you are ahead, on track or behind.

How much time do I need each day?

It depends on the weeks to your sitting. A session is a few lesson cards or 10 questions, usually a few minutes, and the plan's default daily goal is 15 minutes, which you can change. With eight weeks to go, most days need a session or two while you learn the topics; start earlier and one a day is often enough. The plan's pace check tells you which.

Can I pay for NPPE Pro in instalments?

Yes. Choose Pay in 4 with Klarna under any plan on the pricing page. Klarna splits the price, plus tax, into 4 payments: the first when you buy, then one every 2 weeks. Your plan opens right away, with the same access as paying by card. See Canadian payment terms. A higher initial payment may be required for some consumers.

What happens if I fail the NPPE?

You receive a report showing how you did in each content area, and you can register for a later sitting. You pay the exam fee again for each attempt. Limits differ by regulator: APEGA and APEGS allow four attempts, while EGBC sets no limit but may ask for a 12-month wait after three consecutive fails.
