How the simulator compares with the real NPPE

The NPPE has 110 multiple choice questions, each with four options and one correct answer, to be answered in 2.5 hours. 100 are scored and 10 are experimental questions that do not count, and there is no penalty for guessing, so an answer on every question is the right habit. It is closed book, computer based and remotely proctored, and since June 2026 you need a phone or tablet as a second camera.

NPPE Pro's mock exams copy what you can rehearse at home: the length, the clock, the multiple choice format and the mix of sections. They cannot copy the proctoring, and they do not use the real questions, which are confidential. For the closest experience, sit a full mock exam on a laptop or desktop in one go, the way you will sit the real one.

The NPPE pass mark is a scaled score of 65, which is not 65 percent. Scores are set by a standard-setting method and equated across sittings, and results come back only as pass or fail. NPPE Pro uses 65% as its own target on the mock exams: a sign you are scoring in a comfortable range, not a prediction of your result.

From the first question to the report

  1. Sit it like the real thing

The clock counts down from 2.5 hours and submits the exam when it reaches zero. Star any question to come back to, and your answers save as you go, so you can resume if you have to stop.
The NPPE Pro study plan: four stages counted back from the exam date.
  2. Read your score by topic

The report breaks that attempt down by topic and sub-topic, with your score and the time you used, so you can see exactly which areas cost you marks.

  3. Go through every answer

Filter to your wrong answers, your starred questions, or one topic at a time. Each question shows your answer, the correct one and the explanation.
An NPPE Pro practice question on ethics, answered, with the explanation for each option.
  4. Watch your readiness move

Mock exam answers count toward your readiness score, and they count more than practice answers because you gave them under exam conditions.

65% is NPPE Pro's target, not the NPPE pass mark. The real pass mark is a scaled score of 65, which is not 65 percent. Scoring 65% or better on mock exams 3 and 4 tells you that you are in a comfortable range. It does not predict your result.

When to sit each mock exam

On the Full Prep plan, mock exams 1 and 2 come in the Practise and review stage, after your first pass through the lessons, and the goal is to review every answer afterwards. Mock exams 3 and 4 come in the Mock exams stage as full timed simulations, before the final week. On Practice and Exam, all four follow your topic practice; on Exam Only, the plan starts with them.

Every mock exam can be retaken, and each attempt is kept with its score and date, so you can compare them. Only your latest attempt at each exam counts toward readiness. A second attempt at the same exam repeats the same questions, though, so a fresh exam is a better test than a retake of an old one.

Questions people ask

More answers in the NPPE FAQ.

Are the mock exams like the real NPPE?

They follow its shape. Each of the 4 mock exams is a full-length set of multiple choice questions on a 2.5-hour timer, covering the same six sections as the NPPE blueprint. Afterwards you get a report by topic and an explanation for every answer. The real exam's questions are confidential, so no prep provider can show them to you.

What does the 65% target on the mock exams mean?

65% is the target NPPE Pro uses on its own mock exams to show whether you are scoring in a comfortable range. The NPPE's real pass mark is a scaled score of 65, which is not the same as 65 percent, and the exam is reported only as pass or fail. Treat the target as a practice goal, not a prediction of your result.

What is the pass mark for the NPPE?

The pass mark is a scaled score of 65, which is not the same as 65 percent. Scores are scaled so that a pass means the same thing at every sitting, and results are reported only as pass or fail. Candidates who fail receive a report showing their performance by content area.

What is the format of the NPPE?

The NPPE has 110 multiple choice questions, each with four options and one correct answer, to be answered in 2.5 hours. 100 questions are scored and 10 are experimental questions that do not count, and there is no penalty for guessing. It is closed book and remotely proctored, and since June 2026 candidates need a phone or tablet as a second camera.

How many mock exams does NPPE Pro have?

NPPE Pro has 4 full-length mock exams: two of 100 questions and two of 110, 420 questions in all. Each runs on a 2.5-hour timer and ends with a strengths and gaps report by topic and an explanation for every question. Every paid plan includes all four, and Exam Only is the plan built around them.

Can I retake an NPPE Pro mock exam?

Yes. Every mock exam can be retaken as often as you like, and each attempt is kept with its score and date so you can switch between reports. Your readiness score uses only your latest attempt at each exam. Because a retake repeats the same questions, take all four once before you go back to an old one.

Can I stop a mock exam and finish it later?

Yes. Your answers save as you go, and an exam in progress can be resumed with the time you had left when it last saved. The real NPPE cannot be paused, though, so for at least the last two mock exams it is worth sitting the full 2.5 hours in one go, at the time of day you will write.

Can I take the mock exams on my phone?

You can, but a laptop or desktop is better for a full mock exam, and the app suggests one before you start. The real NPPE is written on a computer, with your phone or tablet used only as a second camera, so rehearsing on a computer is closer to the day. Short practice sessions work well on a phone.

Is the NPPE open book?

No. The NPPE is closed book. You cannot bring notes or textbooks, and a remote proctor watches through your webcam and a second camera on your phone or tablet. That is why preparation is about understanding and recall rather than knowing where to look things up.

Your first session takes fifteen minutes.

Tell NPPE Pro your sitting and it builds the plan. The 14-day trial starts from your first finished lesson, and no card is needed.
